Welcome to Fifth Grade English Language Arts

Fifth graders at Jerabek Elementary School participate in a rotation schedule for their entire day at school. Each student is assigned a homeroom teacher and travels throughout the day for curriculum instruction.
Mrs. Reid is the English Language Arts teacher for each fifth grade student. ELA includes reading, writing, and research. Students also practice their speaking and listening skills. Mrs. Reid accompanies each class weekly to the Jerabek Library.
Mrs. Pond is responsible for instruction in: Science, Health, and Physical Education. She accompanies each class to Super Science labs.
Mrs. Del Pego is responsible for Math and Social Studies instruction as well as coordinating Art Corps lessons.

Ranch Round is Coming on Friday, May 29th. Have you ordered your tickets yet?

Reading Logs

Students should be keeping an online reading log that reflects at least 30 minutes of reading per day. Reading minutes are recorded each week on Friday. Please contact Mrs. Reid if you need another copy of your user name and password. Some students prefer to track their reading using a paper reading log. These are available in the classroom and should be turned in on Fridays.

LIBRARY

Students make weekly visits to the Jerabek Library every Thursday.
Fifth grade students may check out two books per week.
Books are due the Wednesday before, unless they are being renewed for another week. Students must bring their library books with them in order to renew them.
Mrs. Reid has been teaching in San Diego Unified School District for the past 24 years. This is her 15th year at Jerabek Elementary. In addition to her California Teaching Credential, she holds a GATE teaching certification as well as an Masters in Arts in Reading Instruction.
